Dr. Anne Pattel-Gray has an earned Ph.D. from the University of Sydney awarded in 1995 (she was the first Aboriginal person to graduate with a Ph.D., from the University of Sydney), and a Doctor of Divinity from India awarded in 1997 (the first Aboriginal person to be awarded the D.D.).

Anne has achieved many firsts in her life, and she is known as a trail blazer and has opened many doors for her people.  She is a recognised scholar, Aboriginal activist and prolific writer with several publications –chapters, articles, edited works and authored books.

Anne is deeply committed to the advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and to reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians. She is currently the CEO of Murra Innovations Limited (2011-) and in the past she served as Chairperson (2008-2010) of Adelaide North TAFE; and Chair of the Kaurna Plains Child Care Centre (2009); Deputy Chairperson of the Connecting Foster Carers SA(2007-2010).

She is currently President of the Aboriginal Advancement League SA Incorporated (2008- ), Chairperson of the National Aboriginal Women’s Alliance, and a Board Member of the International Association of Black Religions and Spiritualities.

Anne has held senior executive positions as Executive Director of  Tauondi (2003-2007) and Chair/Head of Department and full Professor at UTC Bangalore, India (1998-2001); and the founding Executive Secretary of the Aboriginal & Islander Commission of the National Council of Churches in Australia (1989-1998).

She has been a Visiting Professor at various international universities for example: Ewah Women’s University Seoul, Republic of Korea (March 1990); Spellman College Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. (February 1994); Loyola Marymount University Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. (February 1994); Harvard University Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A. (September 1995); Gurukul Theological Seminary Madras, India /Academy of Ecumenical Indian Theology and Church Administration. (September 1995).

Anne is deeply committed to social justice and is a tireless worker for the advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
